Auditions for WTG Playwright's Showcase

Location: Burton Leavitt Theatre

We’re looking for performers to fill the roles for 5 thirty minute pieces!

NO experience needed, and ALL are welcomed to attend!

Auditions will consist of cold readings from each piece. Headshots and resumes are optional.  Please come wearing comfy clothing. If interested, please refer to the play and character descriptions below!

Performances will be Friday, April 12th and Saturday, April 13th.

Rehearsals twice a week up until tech week.

THE PLAYS:

Love, La Familia by Nate Cusson (Drama/Comedy)                    Characters: 3 m, 3f

KRISTEN, 17, Mixed Hispanic/Caucasian. High school senior. Between school, work, theatre, media, etc. she is not quite together but not yet falling apart. Firm and direct. Cautious at times.

BECCA, 18, Caucasian. High school senior. Affluent and is an acquaintance of Kristen. Reacts quickly and can be controlling.

CHRIS, 17, Caucasian. High school senior. Diagnosed with Asperger’s and has told no one about his condition. Handsome, socially anxious, and warm.

CODY, 18, Chris’s closest friend. A realist and honest.

MOTHER, Mid to late 40’s. Hispanic. Kristen’s mother. Emotionally driven and built on foundations of moral righteousness and family as a first priority. After living in the U.S. for over 25 years she still maintains a slight Spanish accent.

FATHER, Late 40’s. Caucasian and balding. Kristen’s father. A majority of his life was spent driving large freight trucks to support his family. He is at the tipping point of mental health.

This Crazy Thing Called Love by Peter DeNegre (Drama/Comedy)                Characters:  2 males, 3 females *All characters can be of any race

George:  30s to 40s, in a polyamorous relationship with Michelle and Tracey

Sean: 30s,  Tracey's boyfriend

Michelle:  40s, friendly and confident, polyamorous 

Tracey 30s to 40s, comedic role

Linda:  30’s,  Tracey’s younger sister

Baby School by Paula Larson (comedy)                  Characters: 3m, 1f

BRET- Adult male, preferably around age 40, or middle-aged. 

JEMAINE- Adult male, preferably around age 40, or middle-aged. Outside of Baby School, Bret and Jemaine are in a band together. They are buddies. 

TEACHER- Preferably adult female.

BABY SCHOOL THEME SONG SINGER- Adult male.

Dinosaur School by Paula Larson (comedy)                          Characters: 1m, 2f, and at least 2 more with no preference in gender.

JACK- Adult male with a small body frame. Jack has a warm personality and a healthy, bold self-confidence, but he still wears his heart on his sleeve enough to reveal his insecurities when Jill unconsciously criticizes his small stature.

JILL- Adult female. On the surface, Jill is a bit timid, shy, and nervous. Yet, she is bursting on the inside with a fiery passion to live out her goals and dreams. Jill also displays her emotions pretty honestly-- she's kind and thoughtful of other people's feelings, yet her habit of criticizing herself causes her unconsciously to be critical of Jack as well. Jack and Jill have known each other for only a few months. They are good friends, and there is mutual romantic interest, but it is in the beginning stages.

TEACHER- Preferably adult female.

STUDENT 1- Adult.

STUDENT 2- Adult.

OTHER STUDENTS- A few adults to make an appearance at beginning of skit, with no lines. 

**Please note Baby School and Dinosaur School combine to make one piece.**

Characters:   THE ANCHORED, may be played by any age, gender or defining characteristic. A thoughtful individual, with a quiet defiance.

HADLEY, age six** (Please note that the age listed just serves as a guide for the character. Hadley can be played by a teenager or young adult.)
