CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: Please note that all ages listed merely serve as a guide for ALL characters.  Additional ensemble cast needed and newcomers are welcome and encouraged. The adult ensemble roles for this show are exciting and great opportunities! 6 actors (3 m, 3 f) needed to play 3-4 roles a piece.

Anne Shirley: (12-14 years old) An precocious, funny and spunky girl, Anne is full of imagination, passionate about reading and loyal to those around her. Her fiery temper and over active imagination does get her in trouble from time to time.

Marilla Cuthbert:  (40s-late 50s) Marilla Cuthbert has a heart of gold, but her somewhat cold demeanor can be off putting. Though initially reluctant to keep Anne, as she and her brother needed a boy to help them with chores on their farm, Marilla grows to care for Anne as her very own

Matthew Cuthbert: (40s to late 50s) Matthew Cuthbert is Marilla’s brother. Good-natured and shy, Mathew is the one who convinces Marilla to let Anne stay with them in Avonlea. He quietly shares the extremes of Anne’s over-active imagination.

Gilbert Blythe: (12-14 years old) Throughout their stormy school years, Anne and Gilbert have a tense relationship but eventually they become friends and confidantes. Gilbert is smart, charming and kind hearted and soon realizes that he would do anything to win the friendship of Anne.

Diana Berry: (12-14 years old) Diana is Anne’s bosom friend and true kindred spirit. Diana and Anne attend school together in Avonlea. She is Anne’s confidante and loyal supporter through all of their misadventures together.

Rachel Lynde: (40s-late 50s) Rachel Lynde is the Avonlea town gossip and best friend of Marilla Cuthbert. She is outspoken, opinionated, long-winded and matter-of-fact. A capable woman she makes it her business to know everything about other people.
